About Phuoc Dat Coffee Farm

Quang Tri Province is one of the key regions for cultivating Vietnam Arabica coffee, with a huge area of almost 5,000ha and a variety of favorable natural qualities (red basaltic soil, median coffee-growing altitude from sea level to 500m and above, and so on).

If you're a lover of Vietnam specialty coffee, you've probably heard about Khe Sanh Arabica Catimor Single Origin coffee, which is largely grown in Quang Tri Province on Vietnam's north-central coast.

Phuoc Dat Coffee Farm is a family-run coffee plantation in Huong Hoa District, Quang Tri Province, with around 25 years of coffee-cultivating expertise.

Mr. Ho Van Cuong, the farm owner, and his family began cultivating coffee in 1998 utilizing the traditional cultivation method. However, after realizing the economic, social, and environmental benefits of organic coffee, they chose to transition to a natural and sustainable agricultural style in 2013.

Mr. Van Cuong told VCA that organic products would provide farmers with a more steady income, a better environment for local individuals and animals, and higher quality green coffee beans.

Nonetheless, nothing is simple at first.

Mr. Van Cuong and his team had to study organic coffee farming on their own. Mr. Cuong even traveled to Tay Nguyen City by himself to see skilled coffee farms, study their processes, and purchase high-quality coffee seedlings.

Furthermore, when specialty coffee was first becoming popular, Cuong Dat Coffee Farm suffered greatly to find a stable market for its high-quality products.

Finally, their efforts have paid off.

The farm is able to produce coffee beans with outstanding taste and a distinct aroma by not using synthetic chemicals (pesticides and herbicides) and just fertilizing the coffee plants with manure.

The Cuong Dat Coffee Farm team has invested in innovative planting, harvesting, and processing procedures for future growth (raising coffee trees in nurseries, hand-picking ripe coffee cherries with no defects, and drying them under direct sunlight). Furthermore, they have purchased their own coffee roaster machines in order to expand their business.
