About Ca Day Thuan An My Cuong Coffee Farm

The Day coffee tree, a Robusta cultivar, is an exclusive coffee that can only be found in Vietnam. Day's coffee tree distinguishes itself from other coffee tree types by having large and oval-shaped leaves with slightly ridged edges; a united dark green color; healthy branches; and ripe coffee cherries with balanced shapes and a vibrant red hue.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong's farm in Thuan An Commune planted the Day coffee species thirty years ago. After a long period of breeding numerous coffee tree types, he discovered this coffee variety on his land in 1993.

Day coffee trees have many excellent characteristics, such as large coffee cherries, ease of harvesting, mold resistance, and high drought resistance.

Mr. Cuong has self-researched the organic breeding process for 1,000 samples of Day coffee tree buds to increase his farm productivity. Mr. Cuong's plantation replaced the ordinary coffee species with Day species in 1998.

Ca Phe Thuan An My Cuong's Coffee Farm has been able to yield roughly 7 tons/ha of green coffee beans after three years of transformation, outgrowing other farms in Thuan An Commune. As a result of such outcomes, several local farmers have visited Mr. Cuong's property, studied his growing model, and purchased seedlings. Mr. Cuong constructed his farm nurseries and imported the Liberica coffee cultivar in 2014 to suit the market demand.

Currently, his farm sells 150,000 Day coffee tree seedlings to the market. The farm supplies seedlings not just to local farms in the Thuan An area, but also to farms in nearby provinces such as Dak Lak and Binh Phuoc. Because of Mr. Cuong's influence, many local farmers have begun to create their farm nurseries for naturally replanting higher-quality coffee trees.

Ho Chi Minh City certified Ca Phe Thuan An My Cuong's Day coffee trees as elite trees in 2017, allowing for widespread breeding. The accreditation also aids in the preservation of the trees' exceptional gene pool.

With the benefits described above, Day coffee trees enable farmers to reduce investment costs, the amount of water required, and the usage of synthetic chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, and so on).
